last weekend doug and i took a trip up to chi-town. i have not been in years. probably 7-8 years maybe. and when i went i didn’t get to see sights, shop or eat a chicago style dog. so we decided that for this trip we would just walk, pick random spots to eat, see sights and to not follow an agenda.

it was an amazing trip. of course we stopped at ikea on the way. surprisingly we didn’t leave with much. a springform pan, a set of mason jars and a pizza cutter. i know, woah! i had a blast just browsing, dreaming and planning for our future home. i’ll do some damage on that trip, trust me.

we arrived at our hotel at 3:00, checked in, got settled, changed and then hit the magnificent mile running. we stayed at the beautiful knickerbocker which was steps from the mag. mile. so everything was literally right there. shopping. food. entertainment. we turned the corner and just walked. we’d stop along the way just to check out random shops. we even found a great outside bar located right on the chicago river where we grabbed a beer and watched the water taxi’s shuttle back and forth.

once we were hydrated we were back to walking. i was on a mission to get to millennium park to see cloud gate (or as i’d like to call it, the bean).

i was seriously obsessed with this thing. i must have walked around it a dozen times just taking it in from each angle. once doug managed to convince me that it was time to go we were on our way to navy pier.

the next day we were up and at ‘em. hit the ground running. i was taking it all in. the sights. the good food. all amazing.

we wrapped up our chicago adventure with some good ‘ol fashioned chicago style dogs and hot beef sandwiches and of course, more walking. we hopped in the car and headed to the chicagoland speedway for the indy race.

doug got to meet one of his top 2 favorite indy drivers, dan wheldon. he was in heaven.

and since this trip was ‘technically’ for my husband’s birthday then it is only appropriate that i wish him a very happy (early) birthday. i hope you enjoyed the trip. from walking countless miles to eating the most amazing italian food it was all for you. i love you more with each passing day. you are my world. my rock. my only. i love you, shugs. forever and ever.

wanna see more? go here.

a few weeks ago i was honored with the privilege of snapping photos at the 2010 missouri state fair. we got up super-duper early, packed the car and hit the road. three hours later we found ourselves in the middle of sedalia, immersed in the smell of funnel cakes and carnival rides.

it was such a fun day, and even though i found myself utterly exhausted by the end of it i still had such a fantastic time. and what amazed me more than anything, something i will never forget, was the kindness of all those there. having been born and raised in the city i’m not accustomed to so much politeness, goodness, kindness, and sincerity. i soaked it up and held on tightly. such friendly faces around every corner.

visit my photography blog to see more. and of course check out my flickr page, too. enjoy!
